Finding Virtual Assistant Jobs

Let me jump on my soapbox.

Becoming a virtual assistant is NOT another “job”.  When you work as a VA (virtual assistant) you’re working with clients and the last time I checked, when you have clients you’ve got yourself your own little biz-ness.

In any case here are a few places you can look to find your next client.

Virtual Assistant Forums

If you’re looking to become a virtual assistant this should be your first stop. Sign up for free to the Virtual Assistant Forums and you’ll be able to search for open virtual assistant jobs, post a question in the forums, or run a search in the shops for learning tools on how to get started in the VA business. Once you’ve created a website for your virtual assistant business you can submit your site to the forums and get seen by prospects looking to hire.

Hire My Mom helps stay-at-home moms  with at home work positions. has a yearly membership fee of $99 and a membership criteria that you must meet.  They will do all the marketing for you.


eaHelp is one of the leading virtual assistant staffing firms in the United States.  They source high quality executive virtual assistants and place them with clients in the U.S. and globally.  Check out their careers page to see if they’re hiring. Be ready for a grueling interview process.


Zirtual is another great option to work for a well known virtual assistant staffing firm that finds clients for you.  They work solely with U.S. based virtual assistants so if you live outside of the U.S. this company isn’t for you.  Be ready for a grueling interview process.


There is an option to search for jobs on LinkedIn. I recommend going into the advanced search area and type in virtual assistant. In general there isn’t a lot of traction for the term “virtual assistant” in the search query but sometimes you can find some great opportunities. Before you apply for the job make sure your LinkedIn profile is completely filled out. In addition make sure you’ve read my blog post on how to find clients using LinkedIn by clicking here.

Virtual Assistantville

Virtual Assistantville is a premium virtual assistant directory. You do not need to have a website to be listed directly. All you need to do is sign up, select a package and finally create your listing. You can upload a logo if you have one and a tagline and you’ve got a mini-website. The purpose of this directory is to help potential clients find you.

    Many thanks for sharing this. I’m a new VA, very much in the process of setting up the foundations and will the urge to just “go for it”. I’ve signed up to oDesk and I have to admit disheartened by the competition. However this information has been really helpful, to enable me to look elsewhere.     1. Hi Michelle! Were you able to get into the Facebook group now? I pre-approve each request to join. I want to make sure all members provide value and are really a part of the aspiring, new and established virtual assistant community so that’s why I keep it a closed group. Stay away from ODesk. It’s just not worth your time. Have you checked out my post about where to find virtual assistant jobs? I found most of my clients via LinkedIn. When used correctly it is a referral engine!

    I am currently working in the Washington D.C. area as a Senior Executive Assistant. I am working for a contract company who has lost the bid to have the contract renewed. I will be out of a job within 60 days. I would absolutely love to be a VA annd work from home. I would like to join your facebook group and I have already printed all pages from your website. Is the first step to get my webpage set up or to get familiar with all of the software that you recommend? I have not utilized any of this software before…

    1. Pamela, use the next 60 days to learn the most important software for running a VA business. In my humble opinion start with Google Docs, DropBox, and set up a Skype account. While you’re doing this get a website. You do NOT need to invest a lot of money into your website. The key is to just get it up online. You should have a home page, about page, services page and contact page. That is all you’ll need. Feel free to take a look at the websites of those in my Facebook group and those who are members of my community here on the blog. It will give you inspiration for how to write the copy for your website. 60 days is more than enough time to launch your VA business and we will be with you every step of the way so feel free to ask as many questions!     Thank you so much, I am so excited! Bonnie gave me clarity into what a VA actually is and now I have some direction from you in putting it all together. This is new territory for me. A huge change for the traditional assignments that I have come to know as an Administrative Assistant in the employ of someone else and the first time that I am venturing out to work for myself!

  6. I have started using VA for almost 2 years so far it’s been a great experience. They have a web development and SEO team also working along with the VA’s so that basically takes care of all my business needs. I guess that’s one advantage of working with a VA company. Will let you know if my opinion changes about them though, but so far so good.

I wish I saw this before when I was seeking for virutal assistant work so I did not have to waste too much time finding sites, although I am thankful that by doing so, I found a very good and hands-on agency for myself. Thank you for supporting VAs.
